Train-the-Trainer (ToT) Program – “Green Hospitality: Secrets of Success”
Fergana Valley, Nukus & Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan), and Kyrgyzstan

As part of its continued support for sustainable tourism development in Fergana Valley, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in collaboration with mascontour and Helvetas, facilitated a comprehensive Train-the-Trainer (ToT) program on Green Hospitality for members and supporters of the Fergana Valley Community Tourism Network (CTN).
The three-part training, led by Dr. Nicole Häusler and Anar Orozobaeva, combined theoretical knowledge with immersive field experiences across Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, offering participants a deep dive into practical, sustainable tourism practices and adult education methods.

Objectives of the ToT Program
This advanced ToT initiative was designed to:
- Sustainable Tourism Principles
- Introduction to GSTC standards
- Eco-certification and green branding benefits
- Green Operations & Circular Economy
- Energy/water conservation
- Waste reduction and recycling techniques
- Trainer Development & Capacity Building
- Use of AI for training
- SCORE4Climate hotel diagnostics
- Micro-presentations and peer coaching
- Community & Cultural Integration
- Working with local artisans and food producers
- Respecting and celebrating regional heritage

Certification and Results
The final certification took place on June 10, 2025, in Fergana.
All participants—with professional backgrounds in hotel management, handicrafts, tour operations, and hospitality—successfully passed written and oral exams.
- Certified Trainers: 13 officially GIZ-certified trainers
- Training Resources: Printed and digital distribution of a 141-page “Green Hospitality Guide” (in Uzbek and Russian), plus tailored slide decks and tools
- Commitment to Action: All trainers pledged to conduct at least one follow-up training for CTN members in Fergana Valley and beyond.
