How to Explore the Fergana Valley with CTN Members

There are many ways you can explore the Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan more deeply thanks to Fergana Valley CTN and our diverse network of members.

1. Visit the workshop of an artisan master.

See firsthand from master artisans the traditional handicraft techniques that have been passed down from one generation to the next. Visit their studios and workshops to see the source of some of the most beloved handicrafts in Uzbekistan like ikat (fabrics), ceramics, knife-making, suzani (embroidery) and more. Some artisans offer masterclasses where they demonstrate their craft and you can try your hand to create your own piece of art.

2. Shop for local handicrafts and souvenirs directly from the source.

Many handicraft workshops provide an opportunity to buy directly from the artisan while other members run small handicraft shops where everything is sourced locally. So you know you are supporting local artisans with your purchases.

3. Work with our tour operator and travel agency members.

Create customized itineraries with local travel experts or book a tour for a full Fergana Valley experience that includes visits to CTN members as well as other cultural, historical, culinary or natural highlights. They take care of the logistics so you can focus on enjoying your time in Fergana Valley.

4. Stay at a family-run guest house or local accommodation.

Enjoy modern comforts in a traditional Uzbek home or local accommodation. These are usually decorated with local handicrafts and other unique touches. Plus, this is an opportunity to connect with a local family and get a glimpse of local life.

5. Book a local tour guide.

Learn the stories and traditions of the Fergana Valley with a local guide to take you around to different historical sites, markets or other places to visit. This also provides you the opportunity to engage more with people without a language barrier as they can act as an impromptu translator.
