Representing a cultural tourism initiative in Uzbekistan, the Fergana Valley Community Tourism Network’(CTN), this specially curated selection of artisans isn’t simply presenting their work; they are sharing the time-honoured stories, traditions, and culture as a gateway to the region. As a historic artistic hub along the Silk Road, the Fergana Valley is renowned for creators who blend ancient skills with their unique vision, giving each item a distinct character and life.

Diyorbek Nazirov crafts his pottery using techniques passed down from ancestors who once made tiles for the palace of Khudoyar Khan, while Rasuljon Mirzaahmedov‘s UNESCO-listed Ikat process captures the eye of designers like Oscar de la Renta. Vahobjon honours both tradition and the environment, using locally sourced, natural materials to achieve the rich colors and glazes in his work.

Each artisan brings a unique story, weaving together a larger narrative that reflects the rich and evolving legacy of Central Asia and their enduring commitment to keep their crafts flourishing.

“Berlin Bazar is a unique opportunity for us to showcase our products to the German market but also is an opportunity for us to experience other cultures, see the works of other global artisans and exchange ideas and friendship” says Nargiza Akhralovna

“Supporting the participation of Uzbek artisans at Bazaar Berlin reflects our commitment to empowering local artisans by providing platforms to connect with global audiences. This initiative fosters cultural exchange, promotes sustainable economic growth, and helps preserve Uzbekistan’s rich heritage.” says Beate Schoreit, project manager at GIZ Uzbekistan.

CTN, an initiative dedicated to celebrating Uzbekistan’s cultural tourism, sees Bazaar Berlin as a key step in fostering global connections through experiences that go beyond the souvenir. Visitors will have the chance not only to see these exceptional crafts up close but to hear the artisans’ stories and experience the warmth of Uzbek hospitality directly from those who dedicate their lives to preserving these traditional arts.
